After the success of “Blade Runner – The Aquarelle Edition”, Swedish artist Anders Ramsell is back with an original animated short:

”GENDERNESS”

With his watercolor interpretation of the sci-fi classic “Blade Runner”, Anders Ramsell gained fame both in his homeland as well as internationally. Now he presents the animated short “genderness” which he has written, directed and animated in watercolor.

“genderness” saw its world premiere at the “Beverly Hills Film Festival” in Los Angeles in the spring of 2016. The film deals with thoughts about being what is sometimes referred to as intergender – an identity that is mixed between man and woman – a third gender. The European premier takes place at Sweden´s official festival “Göteborgs Film Festival” 29 Jan – 8 Feb 2017.

– My film is an exploration of a bee hive that doesn’t like bees, or even itself for that matter. It would rather be human and thus transformed. For me it’s a metaphor for choosing to be either man or woman … just to realize that I don’t really have to make that choice, I can be both, says Anders Ramsell.

The half hour long ”Blade Runner – The Aquarelle Edition” was  for example exhibited at The Nordic Watercolor Museum on the West coast of Sweden  in 2012 and  in November 2016 at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. The movie got international attention and became something of an internet phenomenon.

Rutger Hauer, who played one of the leading roles in the original film by Ridley Scott, contacted Anders after he saw ”Blade Runner – The Aquarelle Edition”. This lead to Hauer doing the narration in ”genderness”. The soundtrack is performed by renowned Swedish guitarist Janne Schaffer.
